March into Success: Social Media Content Ideas for Authors

Hey there, fellow authors! Mandy Stevens, your friendly social media and ad strategist here, ready to inject some fresh ideas into your March content calendar. Welcome to another edition of the Social Media Corner! This month, we’re diving into a treasure trove of prompts and themes to keep your social media buzzing. Remember, these are just starting points – tweak them, twist them, and make them your own to truly connect with your audience. Let’s get started!

Monthly Themes to Spark Creativity

Think of monthly themes as your content creation compass, pointing you in a general direction. They offer a broad framework, allowing you to explore different avenues while staying relevant.

Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month, which provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women. You could highlight strong female characters from your books or even from your favorite movies. Why not share a list of inspiring female authors who have influenced your own work? You could even create a poll asking your readers about their favorite female characters and why they admire them. Use a book cover to spice it up visually.

National Reading Awareness Month

As authors, we’re all about promoting the love of reading! National Reading Awareness Month is the perfect time to encourage your readers to dive into new books, and of course, your own! Share what you’re currently reading, recommend some of your all-time favorites, and discuss why literacy is so important. Consider posting a carousel of your currently reading stack or a shelfie of your beloved books.

Weekly Observances: Niche Down for Content Gold

Weekly observances allow you to zoom in and focus on more specific topics, leading to highly targeted and engaging content.

National Sleep Awareness Week

We all know how tempting it is to stay up all night lost in a good book! National Sleep Awareness Week gives you a chance to talk about the importance of sleep, both for your readers and for yourself as a writer. Share some tips for getting a good night’s rest or a humorous take on the struggles of being a bookworm who just can’t put a story down. Maybe share an infographic about the importance of sleep or a funny meme about late-night reading.

National Introverts Week

Calling all introverted authors and readers! National Introverts Week is your time to shine. Share your own experiences as an introvert, highlight introverted characters in your books, or discuss how introversion influences your writing. You could even share a snippet from your blog or create a list of introverted characters that you’ve written.

Daily Themes: Quick and Engaging Content Bursts

Daily themes are your secret weapon for those days when you need a quick and easy social media win. They provide fun and engaging prompts that can be easily adapted to your brand.

March 1st: World Compliment Day

Kick off the month with some positivity! Compliment your readers and fellow authors, and encourage your audience to spread the love by leaving compliments in the comments. Ask your audience to compliment their favorite character, a quote, or the author themselves.

March 2nd: Read Across America Day

Share a list of books that have inspired your writing journey or talk about what you’re currently reading. Ask your readers to share what they’re reading in the comments too. Take a picture with a stack of books that you love.

March 6th: National Oreo Cookie Day

Who doesn’t love an Oreo? Ask your readers how they eat their Oreos or share your favorite Oreo flavor. There are so many to choose from these days! Create a poll asking readers their favorite Oreo flavor or share a picture of Oreos alongside a book.

March 8th: International Women’s Day

Similar to Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the empowerment of women. Discuss the women characters in your books or share quotes that inspire you. Share a quote by a female character in your book or a short description of a female character.

March 14th: Pi Day

Get your math jokes ready! Share pie recipes, math-related jokes, or funny memes related to Pi Day. There are tons of memes out there for this one.

March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day

If you write anything with Irish themes, St. Patrick’s Day is your day. Share Irish blessings, folklore, or discuss any Irish influences in your writing or characters. If applicable, share a picture of your book with Irish culture.

March 20th: International Day of Happiness

Spread some joy! Share what brings you joy in your writing and ask your audience what makes them happy. It’s a great engagement question. Ask your readers what makes them happy when they read your books.

March 21st: World Poetry Day

Share your favorite poem or an original piece of your own.

March 25th: Tolkien Reading Day

Celebrate the works of J.R.R. Tolkien by discussing his influence on your writing. Share your favorite quotes from Tolkien’s books. If you’re a fantasy author, this one’s for you.

March 31st: International Transgender Day of Visibility

If you have trans characters in your books, this is a great day to highlight them and promote awareness and inclusivity. Share a description of trans characters in your book, if applicable.

Level Up Your Author Game: Mastering Newsletter List Growth

In today’s connected world, newsletter list growth is more important than ever for authors. Building a strong and engaged email list gives you a direct line to your readers, allowing you to share updates, promote new releases, and build a loyal fan base. But how do you effectively grow your list and turn casual readers into dedicated subscribers? Here are a few key strategies to help you boost your newsletter list growth and connect with your audience on a deeper level:

Offer Irresistible Incentives

Everyone loves a freebie! Offering an incentive in exchange for signing up for your newsletter is a proven way to attract new subscribers. This could be anything from a free ebook or short story to exclusive content, bonus chapters, or even a discount on your books.

  • Create a compelling lead magnet: A lead magnet is a valuable piece of content that you offer in exchange for an email address. This could be a checklist, a guide, a template, or anything else that your target audience would find useful.
  • Highlight the benefits of subscribing: Clearly communicate the value that subscribers will receive by joining your list. Will they get exclusive content, early access to new releases, or special discounts?
  • Make it easy to sign up: Ensure that your signup form is easily accessible on your website, blog, and social media pages.

Promote Your Newsletter Everywhere

Don’t be shy about promoting your newsletter! The more visible your signup form is, the more likely you are to attract new subscribers.

  • Add a signup form to your website: Place a prominent signup form on your website’s homepage, blog, and contact page.
  • Promote your newsletter on social media: Share your signup link on your social media channels regularly.
  • Include a signup link in your email signature: This is a simple but effective way to promote your newsletter to everyone you email.

Engage with Your Subscribers

Once you’ve built your newsletter list growth, it’s important to engage with your subscribers and keep them interested in your work.

  • Send regular newsletters: Aim to send out newsletters on a consistent schedule, whether it’s weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.
  • Provide valuable content: Share interesting news, updates about your books, behind-the-scenes insights, and exclusive content that your subscribers won’t find anywhere else.
  • Encourage interaction: Ask questions, run polls, and encourage your subscribers to reply to your emails.

By following these tips, you can effectively grow your newsletter list growth and connect with your readers in a meaningful way.

Final Thoughts

March offers a wealth of opportunities for authors to connect with their audience on social media. By using these monthly, weekly, and daily themes as inspiration, you can create engaging content that reflects your unique voice and brand. Remember to be authentic, have fun, and let your personality shine through!
